Registration Finally Open + More updates

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

Many of you have been asking us having been asking us so many questions about the hackathon. When is it? Where is it? When can I join?

We've been working hard behind the scenes to get the details hashed out, including this man in the nice stock-shutter photo below.

We're happy to tell you that the website has been updated with WAY more information than before. Including but not limited too: the dates of the actual hackathon, a tentative timeline (that's right, it's tentative, which means it's still subject to change), and all the registration information you need to start your FoodTechie journey.

We also spent long hours thinking of all the nerdy questions you could ask and packing them into our extensive FAQ section. We're pretty sure you will still have more questions, but hopefully after searching the FAQ you will have 1 or 2 less.

Most importantly, we opened up the discord community where you can talk to each other (gasp!). It's an excellent place to go if you're looking for teammates, ideas, or your next soulmate... ok, maybe not the last one. But seriously, if you do find your soulmate on our Discord community, you have to tell us so we can earn some street cred.

All you have to do is read the lengthy rules upon entry, agree to all of the rules you probably didn't read (even though you should), and you're in.

Ideation days

Feedback from previous online hackathons is that the presentations and workshops were great, but everyone wished they had presented that before the hackathon instead of during the hack. In addition to that, many people lose 1/2 day just trying to find a team mate and idea and confused about how to use the online tools.

That's why we decided to have the ideation days, but just how many sessions should we have, and when should they start?

After much discussion, we decided that the format will be as follows: a community kick-off on June 12th to help you get familiar with the Discord and Remo platform, and another big orientation session on June 25th to get you psyched up and ready for the 48-hour sprint. And in between those dates, our team of volunteers will be doing their best to help you find your soulmate -er- I mean, teammate, on the Discord platform.

Please note that some of our sponsors may wish to have workshops dedicated to their challenge prior to the event. If you miss such an event due to short notice, no worries, we will record all of the sessions.

Challenges and Prizes

This is probably the biggest question we get asked. What are the challenges exactly, and what are the prizes?

We do have challenges and prizes on the way, we swear! We're still just trying to hash out the wording, terms, conditions, etc. Some prizes will be cash prizes, others will be consulting services. Either way, registration is free for you and there is no penalty for dropping out. So why not register and make sure you get the latest updates from us?

The sooner we know how many teams are coming, the better we can plan an awesome experience for you. So register your team today.
